Weather for the week: hot and windy initially, better storm chances Friday

Jun 15, 2026

06/15/26 8:45pm: Hi, I hope you are having a good Monday, was pretty nice out there weather-wise today with comfortable temps. Anyway, lets take a look at what we can expect coming up this week and beyond.

Initially, I'm seeing a bit of blowtorch pattern for Tue and especially Wed with strong wind and hot conditions. It looks dry across the state through Thu.

In general I see an overall dry pattern for the next 2 weeks, not uncommon for mid-June in CO before the monsoon develops later in July / Aug.

Just some wind for now. Much of western CO is under a Red Flag Warning for Tue and Wed.

For both the mountains and front-range, on/off strong wind from 12pm Tue through 12am Thu, strongest Wed afternoon with westerly wind-gusts of 30-60 mph (strongest over the Front Range mountains and foothills along/east of the Cont. Divide).

And temps will be in the low to mid 90s for Den/Bou and lower elevations on Tue and Wed (hottest Wed), so combined with the wind, high fire danger.

Then models show a weak cold-front moving down the front-range Wed night into Thu am and this will bring in some more clouds, a bit more moisture and cool things down for Thu (highs back in the 80s for Den/Bou), could be cloudy Thu am.

In terms of precip: basically none through Thu night.

Then moisture does start to increase some across the state from the south / southwest Fri into Sat. So a better chance for afternoon storms on Fri, favoring the mountains (may not be much for Den/Bou and front-range).

Then back to seasonally hot with limited storm chances for the weekend (but some moisture, likely afternoon storms in the mountains on Sat and Sun, but nothing huge).

Looking a ways out, maybe a bit cooler again with some upslope on the front-range next Mon/Tue (06/22-06/23) but that is a was out so who knows.

Then possible more active around June 28th-30th, but that is uncertain as well.

This is the time of year where we really start looking for signs of the monsoon developing....I'm not really seeing that yet in terms of a consistent, high pressure circulation to our south (that would push moisture into the state from both the Gulf or Pacific). Keeping my eyes peeled for that.

First image loop shows forecast PWAT over the next 7 days, we look for the deeper greens to blues for good moisture (for rainfall). Second image shows forecast max wind-gusts between 12pm-6pm Wed from ECMWF. Third image is forecast slide for Wed from Den/Bou NWS office. Fourth image shows the big ridge of high-pressure via 700mb temps over the state on Wed afternoon (will be hot).
