Very cold temps expected across the state tonight

Jan 20, 2025

01/20/24 7:30pm: Feels good to be back in CO despite the frigid temps! Went from 65 in LA to 5 when we landed. With the clear skies and strong radiational cooling, going to be a very cold night across the state. Already below zero across much of the front-range, for example -3 degs at my house in Westminster and very cold in the mountains (already -15 degs in Breck).

Going to be very cold in the mountain valleys tonight (with some spots getting close to -40). Den/Bou will have low temps between -5 to -15 generally speaking

There is an Extreme Cold Warning in place for much of the mountains from now through 9am tomorrow morning. And a Cold Weather Advisory for much of the front-range (Den/Bou) and the eastern plains

First image is from the Den/Bou NWS office. Here is what they had to say about it: "Temperatures are quickly dropping this evening, and overnight lows will fall below zero across the area. A few spots may come close to hitting -40 in the mountain valleys tonight! Dangerously cold wind chills are also expected. It'll be warmer tomorrow, we promise!"

Second image shows current temps from Weatherunderground, third images shows the current cold weather advisories from NWS.

It will warm up nicely along the front-range tomorrow. But will remain chilly in the mountains. More snow coming Fri into Sat. More on that later.
