Updated snowfall map for current storm system through Wed pm

Feb 11, 2025

02/11/25 8pm: Not a big update tonight but wanted to put out my updated snowfall map since the numbers have changed some...a slight reduction in totals in many areas mostly because the storm system is a bit more disorganized and weaker and with the expected jet bands tonight, the snow could be more hit or miss in spots. But for the most part the forecast is on track as the main part of the storm system is moving in now.

Some good snowfall starting to develop along the front-range from Boulder to Ft. Collins and also some good snow in the mountains with some accumulation already near Beaver Creek, Aspen and CB.

And of course its cold on the front-range, currently 9 degs at my house in Westminster with light snow falling (only 1/2" so far), 8 degs in Denver.

On/off snow will continue through tomorrow afternoon with heaviest / most consistent snow from 12am-12pm Wed (for both front-range and mountains)

Amounts remain on track: generaly 2-6" for Den/Bou/Ft.Collins and the front-range urban corridor with 3-12" in the foothills, favoring areas from Boulder north (Boulder and Larimer counties).

North-central mountains on track for a good snow event, especially as the stronger west / northwest flow and cold-air works into the mountains by tomorrow am. Generally 5-13" of new snow with highest amounts west of Vail Pass.

Next storm system will impact the state from 11pm Thu through 11pm Sat (really two waves), heavy snow for the mountains, some more light snow for the front-range....

But what I really wanted to mention is that the weekend storm system is going to be much warmer overall than this storm system, so that means a rain/snow mix for Den/Bou at times on Sat. And in the mountains heavier / wetter snow on top of the cold snow from Thu equals high avalanche danger in spots. Much of the mountains will likely get an additional 6-12"+ by Sat evening. I'll have more on that storm later.

Third image is current view of the Beaver Creek snow-stake. Images 4 and 5 compare forecast total snowfall through 5am Thu from latest HRRR and ECMWF.
