Updated forecast for Fri and Sat including forecast for the Buffs football game

Aug 29, 2025

08/29/25 8:45am: As I mentioned earlier, the forecast is looking interesting to say the least for the Buffs vs GT game that is slated for a 6pm kickoff today. High-res models can't agree: NAM-3km has the main line of storms moving through before the game (3-6pm), but latest HRRR on the other hand has a big batch of storms moving through Boulder in the 4pm-8pm timeframe (and looks wet), so its hard to say. But I'm bringing a rain jacket just in case. It will be cooler there as well with temps in the 60s during the game.

Anyway, we have an active weather day on tap as models show a short-wave moving across the state. Rain showers and weak thunderstorm are already moving into western CO and parts of the mountains now.

For the north-central and south-central mountains:

  • A good chance for scattered storms today between 1pm-10pm (best chances 3pm-8pm), turning wet in spots (and on the cooler side).

  • There could be a few rain showers overnight into Sat am (especially closer to the Cont. Divide and along/north of I-70),

  • For Sat most of the action will be from Summit Co east and especially over the Front Range mountains with isolated to scattered storms from 12pm-8pm (best chances after 2pm)

Along the front-range, best coverage of storms before 3pm today will be over the southern front-range: from the Palmer Divide south across Colorado Springs to Pueblo: scattered storms from 2pm-9pm.

For Den/Bou/Ft.Collins, foothills and northern front-range

  • A good chance for scattered storms from 3pm-10pm, best chances 4pm-7pm, best coverage later this afternoon / evening will be from Denver north across Boulder to Ft. Collins.

  • As I mentioned the main line of storms may move through Boulder by 5/6pm, or it will be pounding rain between 5-7pm, hard to say.

  • A cold front will be pulled down the front-range behind this wave, and that could lead to some rain showers overnight into tomorrow morning 3am-8am, but wont' be much (but likely cloudy and cool to start the day on Sat)

  • Then a better chance for storms on Sat (compared to what I was seeing yesterday) from 12pm-7pm, with some heavy rain in spots again

Weather turns much drier and warmer on Sunday into Monday with much more limited storm coverage everywhere.
