Jan 21, 2025
01/21/24 3:10pm: Heads up, very strong wind expected across the Front Range mountains and foothills from this afternoon into tomorrow morning with westerly wind-gusts of 40-80 mph (strongest above 8kft along/east of the Con.t Divide). Hwy 93 is already closed between Boulder and Golden due to extensive blowing and drifting snow.
From NWS: "Winds are picking up in/near the foothills and, as expected, we're seeing growing impacts from blowing snow.
A portion of Hwy 93 is currently closed south of Boulder as of 11:50 am 1/21. Monitor CDOT web page for road conditions!
Winds will strengthen this evening and overnight, with blowing snow becoming more widespread west of I-25."
Then as another short-wave moves in, more strong wind expected across all of the front-range (including Den/Bou) and eastern plains tomorrow 8am-8pm Wed with northwesterly wind-gusts of 30-50mph (again strongest in/near the foothills).
Also models show another round of snow for the north-central mountains, primarily from 5am Wed to 2pm Thu: 1-5" for the some of the local ski areas with highest amounts near the Cont. Divide: Front Range mountains (RMNP, IPW, Berthoud/Jones/Loveland Passes, etc) will be favored. I'll have more on that later.
First image loop shows forecast wind-gusts over the next 48hrs (from 11am today to 11am Thu), static image shows wind-gusts at 10pm tonight.
