Snowfall map through Wed pm for the large storm
May 5, 2025
05/05/25 8:15am: Alright, I made a snowfall map for you, for the next 48-72hrs....does include a bit that fell over southern CO last night night but most of this will come from now through 12pm Wed with the focus for heaviest precip along the northern front-range (Den/Bou) and the adjacent foothills and mountains from 9am Tue through 9am Wed.
Lots of weather to go over today including some rain/snow reports next but I'll let the maps mostly speak for themselves. Already some heavier rounds of rain/snow over southern CO last night into this morning.
For Den/Bou and the front-range
Some scattered rain and weak thunderstorms primarily from 3pm-10pm today, best coverage will be south of I-70 and west of I-25 (foothills west / southwest of Denver and Palmer Divide south will have best chances).
Then heavier rain from about 9am Tue through 9am Wed. Snow-line still expected to be near/above 8kft.
Likely 1.0 to 1.6" of rain for lower elevations.
Foothills above 8kft can expect 4-12" of new snow with highest amounts above 9k ft (near/above Peak to Peak Hwy)
For the north-central and front-range mountains
A round of rain/snow from 2pm-11pm today, snow-level initially above 9k ft.
Then a better chance for rain/snow from 10am Tue through 3pm Wed, snow level will drop below 8500ft.
Upper parts of Indian Peaks Wilderness (IPW), Rocky Mountain Nat. Park (RMNP) can expect 16-22" of snow (above 9k ft)
Areas closer to Winter Park, Berthoud, Jones, Loveland Passes / ski areas can expect 10-16"
Eastern / upper parts of Summit Co and areas near Hoosier Pass: 7-13"
Further west for Vail, Aspen, CB areas only 2-8" generally speaking, refer to map
For southern CO:
Heavy rounds rain for areas from Colorado Springs to Pueblo to Trinidad: 2.0-3.0" of rain in spots along the southern front-range
Overall heaviest rain/snow will be over south-central to southeast CO (southern front-range) from areas in the southern Sawatch (Collegiate Range near Monarch) to Poncha Pass and especially the Sangre De Cristos to Wet Mountains,
Higher terrain down there above 9k ft may pick up 20-40" of new snow in spots by Wed am (this does include some that has already fallen this morning), this also includes Pikes Peak
Further southwest for the San Juans, generally 8-20" of new snow with highest amounts expected in upper parts of eastern San Juans, refer to map.
In terms of wind: some stronger wind-gusts over northern CO (front-range and mountains) 2pm-11pm today (southeast wind-gusts of 20-40 mph in spots).
For tomorrow in terms of wind, also some strong east to west wind for the front-range (Den/Bou: wind-gusts of 15-30 mph). For the Front Range mountains, easterly wind-gusts of 20-40mph during the day Tue into early Wed)
Storm clears out be Wed evening. Next we will look at rain/snow from last night.
First image is my total snowfall map from now through 6pm Wed (does include a bit from this morning over southern CO). Images 2 and 3 show forecast total liquid precip and total snowfall form now through 6am Wed from very latest HRRR. Fourth image is total snowfall from CAIC WRF 2km model, take amounts with grain of salt but you can see some big time rain and snow in spots.
Stoked! Happy Cinco De Mayo!
