Snowfall map through Thu am for the approaching storm system
Feb 10, 2025
02/10/25 8:30pm: Alright, here you go, my snowfall forecast map through 5am Thu for the approaching storm system. Despite another tricky forecast, below is my best guess based on the setup and cold-air. One thing that is clear is that there will be some jet-stream induced bands of snow tomorrow night into Wed and those are hard to predict exact locations, so uncertainty is high in spots. I'll let the map mostly speak for itself.
Much of northeast CO, including Den/Bou and the front-range is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 2pm Tue to 11am Wed.
Much of the north-central mountains are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 2pm Tue through 5pm Wed.
Parts of eastern CO, near Burlington are under a Winter Storm Watch from 5pm Tue to 5pm Wed.
Light snow is developing now along the front-range, especially near Boulder and the temperatures are dropping already. Currently 17 degs in Denver, 14 in Greeley and only 5 in Cheyenne (that air will work its way in). Some light snow for the northern front-range tonight: Trace-3" in spots favoring Boulder and Larimer counties.
Then the main snow event for Den/Bou/Ft.Collins, foothills and northern front-range will be from 2pm Tue through 8pm Wed (with heaviest snowfall Wed morning). Generally 2-6" for the urban corridor and 4-12" for the foothills favoring areas north of I-70 and west of I-25. Lesser amounts near Castle Rock and the southwestern foothills this time around. Refer to map for details.
For the north-central mountain (including Routt, Pitkin, Eagle, Summit, Grand, ClearCreek, western Boulder/Larimer counties) some very light snow over the Front Range mountains tonight (RMNP, Cameron Pass areas), then the main snow event will be from 2pm Tue through 11pm Wed. Generally 5-13" for the local ski areas with highest amounts west of Vail Pass and closer to Aspen and secondarily near Berthoud, WP and IPW, refer to map for details.
Southern CO (including parts of the southern front-range from Springs to Pueblo, etc) will also get some good snow from Tue night through Wed night: generally 2-6" also for the urban areas along/west of I-25.
San Juans, Sangres, southern Elks, Grand Mesa, southern Collegiate Range, etc will also get some snow Tue into Wed: generally 4-10" for the ski areas (CB, Silverton, Wolf Creek, Monarch, etc).
This wave clears out early Thu am. Next round of snow moves back into the mountains around 12am Fri, with heavy snow expected from 2am Fri through 5pm Sat: additional 6-16" seems likely for much of the mountains. Maybe a bit more snow for Den/Bou as well Sat am (maybe 1-4" more, we shall see). I'll have more on that wave later.
First image is my total snowfall map through 5am Thu. Second and third images compare forecast total snowfall from now through 5am Thu from latest ECMWF and NAM-3km model, take amounts with big grain of salt but you can see where the heavier snow will be (I'll attach GFS and ICON in comments). Fourth image shows the current Winter Weather Advisories and Warnings.
