Snowfall map for the weekend storm systems
Feb 6, 2025
02/06/25 8:45pm: More questions than answers with the weekend storm system (really two waves) but I decided to make you a total snowfall map anyway lol....valid through Sun afternoon. Just know uncertainty is high and the numbers will likely changes some.
Big questions in regards to how far south each wave tracks on Fri night into Sat am and Sat night into Sun am. Its a complex flow pattern with a mix of northwest flow late tomorrow night and southwest flow in-between waves (and even some warm air advection on Sat afternoon), followed by more cold westerly flow o Sun am. CO will be on the southern edge of the jet-stream and any displacement of the waves north or south will have big impacts on snowfall.
Overall impacts will be from 8pm Fri to 11am Sun with a break during the day Saturday. Generally 6-12" for the mountains, favoring northern CO and Trace-3" for Den/Bou and the front-range. Refer to map for all the details.
And it will also be very windy tomorrow 10am-6pm: westerly wind-gusts of 30-60mph, strongest in the Front Range mountains.
Den/Bou and the front-range will have much better snow chances and likely a cold upslope event Mon night into Tue with several inches of snow (and maybe even more snow Tue into Wed)...it looks cold next week!
I'll have more on the storm tomorrow am.
First image is my preliminary snowfall map through Sun pm. Images 2 and 3 compare forecast total snowfall from latest ECMWF and NWS Blend of Models (take amounts with grain of salt). Fourth image loop shows the complex flow pattern via forecast 700mb temps/wind (at 10,500ft a good mid-level flow parameter for CO)...you look for the cold-air and troughs (pink to white) and the warm air and ridges (greens to yellows).
