Snowfall map for the Tue storm system

Dec 16, 2024

12/16/24 7pm: Hi, I decided to make a little snowfall map for you, for this approaching storm system, total snowfall through early Wed am. Latest satellite / radar overlay shows the storm moving into UT/CO border area now (with heavier snow over northern UT up into WY).

The main impacts for the north-central mountains will be from 8am Tue to 2am Wed with heaviest snow from 4pm-11pm Tue. Northern CO will still be favored for the heaviest amounts with up to 10-12" possible in parts of the Park Range (Steamboat ski and north) and parts of the Medicine Bow Range (Cameron Pass to parts of RMNP and northern IPW). Otherwise 2-7" for the local ski areas with highest amounts locally near Winter Park, Berthoud/Jones, Loveland Passes, etc.

For Den/Bou and the front-range just turning windy and colder after 11am tomorrow (as the cold-front comes through, no snow accum). Then maybe a few snow showers for parts of the Palmer Divide: Castle Rock, Monument to Elizabeth (6pm-11pm Tue): a Trace-1" in a few spots, wont' be much, with the northwest downslope winds.

Storm clears out early Wed am. Wind dies down in most areas except for over the Front Range mountains on Wed. Nice weather from Wed to Tue (Christmas Eve).... may get active after that. Overall warm and dry leading up to Christmas this year, then maybe some snow (even on the 25th but its a ways out and doesn't look like much).

First image is my snowfall map from now through 2am Wed. Second image shows current, regional satellite/radar overlay. Images 2-4 compare forecast total snowfall from latest ECMWF and HRRR models, take modeled snowfall with grain of salt. I'll attach latest NAM-3km in comments.
