Snowfall map for the next storm system through 6am Fri (more snow Fri night into Sat)
Apr 3, 2025
04/03/25 8:35am: Alright here we go, next storm system on its way. You can see the upper-level low spinning on the satellite image below which will impact the state from mid-day today through early tomorrow morning (its already snowing in western / southern CO). I put together a total snowfall map for just this current wave through 6am Fri. The active weather pattern will continue through Sat afternoon with another storm system slated to impact the state from tomorrow afternoon through Sat morning (not included on my map below).
For much of the north-central mountains the main round of snow will be from 12pm today through 2am Fri. Generally 4-12" of new snow expected at the ski areas / higher terrain favoring the Front Range mountains along/east of the Cont. Divide (especially near Loveland, Grays/Torreys, Berthoud/Jones Pass, southern IPW, Eldora, etc).
More snow expected for the north-central / south-central mountains from 2pm Fri through 6am Sat: additional 2-6" seems likely again favoring the Front Range mountains (not on map)
For Den/Bou and the front-range models show a round of colder southeast to easterly upslope flow and that should bring in a round of snow showers this afternoon / evening. The forcing aloft is weak so not looking at huge amounts, except in the foothills west/southwest of Denver.
For Den/Bou and the front-range main event will be from 3pm-11pm today: generally Trace-3" of snow accumulation, with highest amounts locally in the upslope notch: southwest of a line from Boulder to Parker (west of I-25). Less snow up by Ft. Collins / Loveland.
The foothills west of Den/Bou can expect 2-7" in spots favoring areas from Idaho Springs south to Evergreen, Conifer, Bailey, Georgetown, etc.
More snow expected for Den/Bou and the front-range from about 7pm Fri through 7am Sat: additional 1-5" of new snow and turning colder for Sat. Heads up looks winter like on Saturday and soccer games will likely be impacted (not on map).
Southern CO from the Elks to the San Juans should also do pretty well from the next two waves: generally 4-10" for this wave and then and additional 4-10" for the Fri nigh into Sat wave, so it will be piling up in spots.
In terms of wind: with the main lows tracking south, not as much wind overall. Some stronger wind at times today across the north-central mountains (southwest wind-gusts of 20-40 mph). But then turning fairly calm across much of the state from tonight through Sat am (so wind won't be an issue in most areas during the storm as we have weak wind-flow aloft).
Second storm system clears out Sat afternoon...then back to warm and dry weather for much of next week and turning very warm again (getting back towards 80 for Den/Bou by next weekend).
First image is my total snowfall map form now through 6am Fri (does not include the Fri night to Sat am wave). Second image loop shows the upper-level low approaching CO now. Image 3 shows forecast total snowfall from now through 6am Fri from latest HRRR (first wave), fourth image is total snowfall through 6am Sat (and includes the second wave which is more uncertain so take amounts with grain of salt).
