Snow Totals for the storm so far. Some surprise amounts in spots (hit or miss in other spots).
Jan 5, 2025
01/05/24 8:30am: Morning....I should be skiing near Vail today but we are taking the girls to the last Broncos game of the regular season (should be fun, but 12" of powder at Vail would have been nice lol). Interesting storm system so far with some surprise higher snow amounts in spots (near Telluride and Silverton with 9-12" down there and 12" at Vail) and some lower amounts in spots (only 2" at Keystone and 4" at Winter Park) but there is still more snow on the way for the mountains (I have also included an image below that shows additonal snowfall over the next 24 hours).
On the front-range, not much snow as expected with a little bit between Boulder and Ft. Collins (0.2" to 0.8" in spots up there) and 2-5" on the eastern plains near Sterling to Ft. Morgan). At my house in Westminster just a Trace of snow.
Anyway, here are some notable 24hr reports from the ski areas, including what is currently on the snow-stakes (note that totals will be higher than this by tomorrow morning):
Vail: 11” (12”)
Silverton: 11”
Telluride: 9”
Steamboat: 7” (8”)
Beaver Creek: 7”
Snowmass: 7”
Aspen Highlands: 7”
Powderhorn: 5”
Sunlight: 5”
Aspen Mtn: 5”
Winter Park: 4”
Loveland: 4”
Breck: 3” (4”)
Copper: 4”
A-Basin: 4”
Crested Butte: 3”
Eldora: 3”
Purgatory: 3”
Keystone: 2”
Ski Cooper: 2”
Crazy the spread in totals between Vail and Copper but that is how it goes sometimes with a band of convergence under north / northwest flow setting up right over Vail with a bit of downslope near Copper (but I guess its about time since Copper has picked up so much)
Anyway, high-res models (HRRR: image 5) shows an additional 1-5" for the local ski areas and higher terrain over the next 24-hours (under moist northwest flow).
For the Broncos game in Denver today it will be sunny with high temps in the upper 20s (brrr) but not too bad considering its the beginning of January. Broncos need to win to make the playoffs. It will be the first Broncos game for the girls (and Miriam). Stoked on that but miss the pow, thats how it goes sometimes 🙂
First image is Vail snow-stake early this morning, second image is current view of the Telluride snow-stake, Third image was view of the Steamboat snow-stake this morning. Fourth is of the Snowmass snow-stake this morning. Fifth image shows forecast additional snowfall from 5am this morning to 5am Mon from latest HRRR.
How are conditions in your neck of the woods this morning? How much snow (if any)? How are the roads? How is I-70 this morning?
I'll attach top CoCoRaHS reports in the comments.
