Rinse, wash, repeat: More rain Thu and Fri befor the pattern dries out for the weekend
Jun 5, 2025
06/05/25 8:40am: Rinse, wash, repeat lol! More rain yesterday more rain today and tomorrow especially for the front-range...which is socked in again and on the cooler side for early June (in fact I heard DIA has some ground holds due to fog this morning). We have a cold-front on the way with good storm coverage expected this afternoon.
First, great to see more rain yesterday. I measured 0.15" in the last 24hrs and this gives me 0.80" in the last 72hrs (including the Mon/Tue event). Third image shows 48hr observed rainfall from MRMS (does not include Mon/Tue). Fourth image shows top 24hr reports: parts of Denver picked up > 0.75" of rain just yesterday (with generally 0.75" to 2.0" of rain in the last 3 days).
Anyway, we have two more very active weather days. Models show a cold front moving down the front-range this afternoon and this will combine with a short-wave moving up from the southwest: upslope flow with multiple rounds of storms for the front-range and adjacent mountains. The setup will favor the front-range for heaviest rainfall.
For Den/Bou and the northern front-range: isolated storms between 2pm-5pm, then numerous to scattered storms from 6pm-10pm, with heavy rain in spots, small hail and wind (turning wet this evening in many areas). For tomorrow we could have two main rounds of thunderstorms: 12pm-3pm and then another round 6pm-10pm again (but that second round is more uncertain). Strong storms in spots again, favoring northern front-range.
For the north-central mountains: scattered storms from 1pm-9pm, best coverage from Summit Co east, and especially Front Range mountains along/east of the Cont. Divide. Then a few rain showers (and snow above 10,500ft) tonight into tomorrow morning 10pm-3am.
Then for the mountains tomorrow a very active day (so heads up there) with early storms, for Friday: first round of storms from 9am-2pm, then another round of storms from 5pm-10pm. Snow level will remain above 10,500ft (some minor accumulation in spots, like last night).
Weather pattern dries out for Saturday and Sunday...weekend looks nice to be outside (low 80s for Den/Bou, 60s/70s for mountains) just very slight chances for afternoon storms on each day (after 3pm primarily for Sat and Sun)
First image is current local satellite / surface overlay. Second image shows forecast radar over the next 48hrs (6am this morning through 6am Sat) from latest HRRR. Image 3 shows 48hr observed rainfall from MRMS. Fourth image shows top 24hr rain reports. Image 5 shows forecast total liquid precip over the next 48hrs (through 6am Sat), take with grain of salt but shows where the heaviest precip is likely: Front Range from Springs to Denver to Ft. Collins.
