Rain reports over the last 72hr (24hr) and a look at the thunderstorm forecast for Thu and Fri
Jul 24, 2025
07/24/25 9:20am: Morning, getting ready to head out for some camping (Thomas will be taking over later). But first, great to see some more heavy rain in spots last night.
I had a late thunderstorm at my house around 9:30pm, but only 0.05" of rain, better than nothing but that was my total over the last 3 days (in the donut hole here in Westminster).
But parts of the front-range (including near Aurora/Centennial) have picked up 1-3" of rain in the last 72 hours, especially from the Palmer Divide and south across much of south-central and southeast CO.
Third image shows top 24hr reports. Here are some notable reports:
Franktown 2.1 ENE: 2.43"
Aurora 4.2 NNW: 1.77"
Las Animas 7.5 ENE: 1.77"
Trinidad 1.0 W: 1.53"
Denver 4.2 ENE: 1.43"
Elizabeth 2.1 NW: 1.37"
Lamar 4.3 NE: 1.04"
Windsor 1.5 WNW: 0.74"
Centennial 2.2 SW: 0.65"
Castle Rock 4.6 NNW: 0.63"
As I mentioned many areas from Castle Rock to Colorado Springs to Salida to parts of SLV / Sangres, towards Limon and south to Trinidad picked up 2-3" of rain in the last 3 days!
Anyway, one more active weather day, basically in the same areas that have been getting rain (sorry western CO). And looks like there could be a few severe storms in spots, especially along/east of I-25 over the eastern plains this afternoon.
For Den/Bou and the front-range: storms first develop in the foothills by 1pm then start to push east. Most of the actions will be from 2pm-8pm, with a line of stronger storms likely in the 3-5pm timeframe. Strongest storms will be along/east of I-25 today and near the Palmer Divide and southeast. Heavy rain, small hail and strong wind will be possible with the strongest storms today.
For the north-central mountains isolated to scattered storms from 12pm-8pm, best chances 2pm-6pm. Best coverage from Summit Co. east, favoring front-range mountains from RMNP south. Maybe two rounds of storms (1-3pm, then another round 6-8pm as backside of trough moves through). Hoping we can setup camp between the rounds of storms, or maybe miss the later round.
Atmosphere dries out tomorrow but still a slight chance for some storms in a few areas. For tomorrow: isolated storms mostly in the Front Range mountains and foothills from 2pm-8pm.
That is all for now. I'll be back on Sun afternoon. Enjoy the weekend! How much rain did you get yesterday?, in the last 3 days?
