Quick look at expected snow amounts through 9am Sat (first wave)
Mar 28, 2025
03/28/25 10:15am: Here is a quick look at expected snow amounts from the first short-wave which will impact the state primarily from 9pm this evening to 9am Sat. You can see this short-wave moving into southern NV now on the current satellite loop below.
For the north-central mountains: generally 1-4" of new snow tonight, with highest amounts likely over parts of the Front Range mountains near Berthoud Pass, IPW, southern RMNP.
Overall highest snow amounts expected over parts of the western San Juans (Telluride to Silverton) and into parts of the Elks (near Crested Butte and Aspen): 2-6" by 9am Sat.
For Den/Bou and the front-range some rain showers and weak thunderstorms from 8pm tonight through 4am tomorrow morning. Snow line will remain above about 8500ft, so some snow in the upper foothills: Trace-3" in spots favoring areas north of I-70 (Boulder and Larimer counties).
Much more rain/snow coming from 3pm Sat through 12pm Sun, I'll have more on that later and a total snowfall map.
First image loop is current regional satellite. Second image shows forecast radar at 9pm this evening from latest HRRR. Images 3 and 4 compare forecast total snowfall for just this first wave through 9am Sat form latest HRRR and GFS (you can see some differences, so uncertainty is high).
