Preliminary snowfall map for the Fri/Sat and mostly Sun-Tue storm system

Oct 29, 2026

10/29/26 8pm: Hi. Well since I had some time this morning (related to my procedure lol), I was able to really look at the model data and start formulating my snowfall map below, even though we are still a few days out and some of these details may change, my maps is based on the latest model data (and local knowledge).
Models actually in better agreement with overall track, closer to what ECMWF was showing which is itself stronger and farther north (so that is good). Its still a complicated trough / flow pattern with like 3 little waves within the trough which make it uncertain.
I'll let the map mostly speak for its self. But here are some main take aways:

  • First weaker wave (favoring southwest CO): 9pm Fri to 12pm Sat (snow above 10k ft)

  • Initially warm with higher snow-levels (> 10k ft) through Sun pm (Sat morning they lower a bit but then rise back up by Sat pm into Sun)

  • Coldest air and best northwest flow for the mountains will be from 9am Mon to 9am Tue (thats the snow window for our local mountains)

  • Snow for the north-central and south-central mountains: 11am Sun to 11am Tue (most of it Mon afternoon into Tue), above 9k ft

  • Rain for the front-range: 5am Mon to 2am Tue (best chances Mon pm). There could be be some snow showers above 6k ft early Tue (favoring the foothills and Palmer Divide)

  • For Den/Bou likely 0.20"-0.50" of rain. Looks like less near Ft. Collins/Loveland areas: 0.05"-0.25"

  • For the north-central mountains: 0.25"-1.25" liquid, 5-12" of snow favoring areas west of Vail Pass (closer to Aspen/CB), secondarily Front Range mountains (Berthoud, IPW, etc)

  • Much of western and southwestern CO will get 1-4" of rain (liquid precip) favoring areas near Durango to Pagosa Springs (Some more flooding is possible). Even some good rain for Grand Junction and the Western Slope areas

  • And highest snow amounts expected in the San Juans mostly above 10k ft. Starting Fri night into Sat am. Then much more from Sun am to late Mon: generally 10-24" with higher amounts in spots (highest amounts in the San Juans southwest of Silverton: Weminuche, etc).

Thats all for now. Just know this is my preliminary snowfall map and it will change some
Lastly, I'm seeing signs in the model data of potentially a stronger / colder storm system for Colorado on Nov 6th-8th, stay tuned for more on that.
I have also include forecast total liquid precip from now through 5pm Tue from latest ECMWF model (as settled down and more consistent with other models as well). And forecast total snowfall from NWS Blend of Models through Tue pm, take with grain of salt likely underdoing / overdoing snow in spots.
