Official snow and liquid totals from this last big storm system
Apr 20, 2025
04/19/25 4:20pm 🙂 Hope you are having a good Saturday after the storm! I had a nice ski tour this morning, more on that later. But I wanted to show some snow and liquid totals from this last large storm system. All in all, after looking at the totals, very pleased with my forecast given the complex nature of the storm and the uncertainty (I'll attach my snowfall map from Thu night in the comments below so you can compare).
First image show 72hr observed snowfall from NOHRSC (interpolated so it can be off in spots, but generally accurate). Good to see the expected heavy snowfall across the Front Range mountains and eastern north-central mountains (10-15" there) and really heavy snow near Salida and the northern Sangres with up to 20-24" down there.
Second image shows 72hr observed liquid precipitation from MRMS (also interpolated, but generally pretty good). Great to see a wide swath of 0.40" to 0.80" across the northern front-range (including Den/Bou/Ft.Collins) with > 1" in the foothills. And crazy to see 1.2-1.9" of liquid precip across parts of southeast CO near Salida / Sangres.
Images 3-5 show 48hr snowfall reports from CoCoRaHS for the towns. Was a good event for the western suburbs of Den/Bou with generally 4-8" (which is exactly what I forecast), less near Denver with generally 2-4" (but still in range). And the foothills picked up a solid 6-12" in spots. The one obvious area that was a bust was areas near southeast Denver, Aurora, to Parker and Castle Rock, those area picked up very little snow (likely due to a southeast downslope hole during the event.
First here are some notable 48hr reports from CoCoRaHS (location, snowfall and liquid-amount):
