New snowfall map for the Mon-Wed storm system

Feb 16, 2025

02/16/25 8:25pm: Hi, happy Sunday evening. The snow just keeps stacking up in the mountains!...4 days of snow with 4 more to go. I had a great ski tour today with some nice and deep pow turns but with much more snow coming to the mountains (already started tonight) I wanted to post my snowfall forecast map valid from tonight through Wed am.

Already some moderate / heavy snow across much of the north-central mountains this evening: Snow-stakes show 4-8" of new snow since this morning at many of the ski areas.

Not a big post tonight but here are some main points.

For the north-central mountains light / moderate snow tonight favoring areas near the Cont. Divide, then another round of heavier snow from about 11am Mon through 5am Wed (heaviest Tue am). Generally 8-16” of additional snowfall favoring northern CO and areas near the Cont. Divide. (Winter Park, Berthoud/Jones, IPW, RMNP, Cameron should be favored locally). Up to 24-30” for Park Range (Steamboat ski area north).

In terms of wind, some strong wind in the mountains tomorrow ahead and during the short-wave, strongest from 8am-8pm Mon with westerly wind-gusts of 30-60mph

For Den/Bou and the front-range a more uncertain snow forecast and will all depend on how far south the main upper-level wave can track on Mon evening. But one thing that is clear is: another shot of very cold arctic air coming in as the trough moves through Mon night into Tue am with temps dropping into the single digits again on Tue (going to be very cold Tue and Wed).

Anyway for the front-range a chance for some snow / snow showers primarily between 2pm Mon to 2am Tue. Best chances for more meaningful accumulation will be closer to Ft. Collins / Larimer county foothills. Generally Trace-3” for the urban corridor and 1-6” for the foothills. Refer to map.

First image is my snowfall map from tonight through 5am Wed. Second image is current view of the Copper snow-stake (with 5-6" already). Image 3 shows forecast total snowfall from now through 5pm Tue from latest HRRR and fourth image is forecast total snowfall through 5am Wed from NWS Blend of Models (likely going to be more in certain spots). I'll post GFS in comments.
