Impressive 48hr rain totals for western CO. Chilly out there this morning

9/15/26 8:30am: Along with the snow over the higher peaks (which I posted about earlier), some impressive 24hr and 48hr rain totals for parts of west/southwest CO and the mountains.

Parts of southwest CO near Ignacio picked up > 2.8" of rain yesterday and areas near Delta and Hotchkiss >1.6" of rain. Also a ton of rain in parts of the Elks and San Juans from near Crested Butte towards Gunnison and down towards Pagosa Springs.

First image shows 48hr observed rainfall from MRMS. Great to see a wide swath of 1-2" of rain for much of southwest CO. With 0.50" to 1.00" for parts of the central mountains.

Also nice and cool out there this morning. Fourth image is latest surface map for CO, showing current temps, dewpt and wind-speed. Only in the mid-50s for Den/Bou and in the 30s over some of the mountain passes this morning (for example Berthoud Pass is at 37 degs).
