Happy February. Wind and snow reports this morning

Feb 1, 2025

02/01/25 9am: Happy Saturday, happy first day of February...I can't believe its February already, winter goes by fast even though we have a lot of winter weather left (and some warmer air mixed in at times). But good to see the current storm system moving in as expected this morning with some snow across the north-central mountains and at the ski areas. Also some strong wind in spots overnight into this morning.

First image is current composite radar showing the snow flying over the mountains, with heaviest amounts near Steamboat (where the top of the mountain has already picked up 6", they officially reported 3" at 5am mid-mountain).

Second image shows peak wind-gusts this morning from Den/Bou NWS office showing some gusts of 50-60 mph over some of the higher peak with strongest wind over the Front Range mountains. CAIC weather stations show currently top of Breck: Peak 8 gusting to 59 with a temp of 15 and gusts of 48 at top of Berthoud Pass with a temp of 22 (fairly warm for this time of year).

On the front-range (Den/Bou) we have a stout wave cloud in place...I have always said, all it takes is a wave cloud and wind to ruin an otherwise really nice day lol...hopefully this wave cloud moves out (which would bring back the warmth). So cloudy to partly-cloudy for front-range and turning warmer in the afternoon.

On/off snow will continue in the mountains from now through 11am Sun with heaviest snow tonight: 1-4" of additional snow accum for the local ski areas. Heaviest snow will be over the Park Range (Steamboat ski and north and Rabbit Ears) and also over Medicine Bow Range (RMNP, Cameron Pass, etc), up to 6-10" additional in those areas.

It will be windy in the mountains through 9pm today, then a bit of a lull (except front-range mountains) and then more wind from 10am-8pm tomorrow: 30-60 mph gusts, strongest along/east of the Cont. Divide.

Was going to ski today but decided to push it to tomorrow for hopes of more pow (and maybe less wind lol). How are conditions in your neck of the woods this morning (especially in the mountains)? Happy February.

Images 3-5 show current view of snow-stakes or view from ski area for Vail, A-Basin and Steamboat (top of mountain).
