Good to see some snow flying over the north-central mountains this morning
Dec 17, 2024
12/17/24 8am: Good to see some snow flying across parts of the north-central mountains, although most of the meaningful snow is currently confined to the Indian Peaks (IPW), RMNP and up towards Cameron Pass (those areas will be favored for this event). Image 1 shows current local radar/surface overlay.
But you can see a bit of snow starting to accumulate at Winter Park and Vail (images 3 and 4), second image shows current conditions at Berthoud Pass where its snowing and blowing. Its also snowing lightly at Loveland ski area and top of Steamboat ski.
Looking at the latest HRRR, it shows most of the snow accumulation for the north-central mountains coming from 2pm-11pm today. Still looking at generally 2-4" for some of the local ski areas with 4-10" for parts of IPW, RMNP and Cameron Pass areas, maybe a bit less near Steamboat ski / Park Range (3-7" there).
Already very windy over parts of the Front Range mountains. For example Niwot Ridge is reporting southwest wind-gusts of 59 mph with a temp of 13. Berthoud Pass is gusting to 40 with a temp of 14 and Loveland Pass has gusts to 43 with a temp of 17.
Strong wind expected over the Front Range mountains and foothills today through 7pm (gusts of 30-60mph). Windy over Den/Bou as well but not as strong (20-40mph gusts) turning colder this evening into tomorrow (but no precip).
I'll attach my snowfall map from last night in the comments (mostly the same, maybe on the lower end of the range in certain spots).
How are conditions in your neck of the woods this morning?
