Front Range and Town Seasonal Snow Totals

Dec 3, 2024

12/03/24 8am: Since we have some nice weather (going to be near 60 in Denver today), thought it would be good to also look at some seasonal snow totals for the front-range and towns across CO. Last night I had a chance to put together seasonal snow totals (since Oct 1st) for some CoCoRaHS locations/homes that reported >90% of the days (like 57 out of 62 days at minimum).

Much of the front-range including Den/Bou south across Palmer Divide and southeast CO is running at 110%-210% of normal snowfall for this time of year. Areas closer to Ft. Collins / Greeley are below normal.

At my house, my seasonal total (since Oct 1st) is 16.6" and that would be 126% of average for this time of year. At Denver Int. Airport (DEN) where official records for Denver are kept, they have recorded a whopping 23.3" of snow and that is 188% of normal...now downtown Denver has only picked up about 12-15" total and that is closer to normal (like 110%). Contrast that to Ft. Collins which has only had 1.4" of snow this season and that is only 10% of average!

I have also included a few mountain town locations that were reporting (there were none in/around Summit) but crazy to see over 72" just north of Crested Butte in the Gothic townsite. Also crazy to see 46" near Trinidad already and 44" near Limon...mostly from that monster early Nov snow-storm.

Looking at NOHRSC seasonal totals (image 5) areas near Silverthorne / Frisco and also near town of Winter Park and Fraser have picked up about 40-60" of snow total so far this season.

First two images show seasonal snow totals from CoCoRaHS since Oct 1st (for good reporting stations). Images 3 and 4 are CoCoRaHS maps showing the same numbers (image 3 zoomed in over northeast CO, image 4 rest of state). Image 5 shows seasonal totals from NOHRSC (interpolated but pretty close in many spots).

What are your thoughts on the town snow totals so far? I hope we continue to run above average.
