Forecast for the weekend, windy at times, then a more meaningful snow-storm for the mountains on Monday
Oct 16, 2025
10/16/25 8:30am: Happy Thursday. Lets take a look at what we can expect weather-wise this weekend into next week. Next more significant storm I'm tracking mostly for the mountains will be Mon morning to Tue morning. Prior to this going to be a nice weekend overall with just a windy / dry cold-front on Sat morning. Here are some main points
A few snow showers over the northern mountains today (from Park Range: north of Steamboat, to Medicine Bow Range (Cameron Pass to RMNP), won't be much (there was a dusting of snow at some of the ski areas last night, like at WP)
Turning windy this afternoon over the Front Range mountains, westerly wind-gusts of 20-40mph, above 9k ft
Turning chilly across the plains / front-range (Den/Bou) tonight, with some patchy frost in spots buy Fri am (lows of 33-38 expected, below 32 for Platte River valley). Also freeze warnings for parts of western CO (where it hasn't froze already)
It will be nice, sunny and seasonable warm across the state on Friday, but windy / breezy in the foothills and mountains (nothing too major)
Models show a fast moving clipper / cold-front grazing northern CO on Sat morning.... this will just bring a few snow showers to the northern Front Range mountains (Cameron Pass, RMNP, IPW): 5am-12pm Sat: Trace-3" of snow above 9k ft
For Den/Bou and the front-range urban corridor just a windy cold-front on Sat morning, but will remain dry (too much northwest downslope flow).
It will be turning windy across northern CO including the Den/Bou and Front Range mountains from 6am-6pm Sat, windiest after 11am: for the mountains: westerly wind-gusts of 30-50mph above 9k ft. For Den/Bou: west / northwest wind-gusts of 15-30 mph (strongest 12pm-6pm)
Back to very nice and warm weather on Sunday, high temps in the 70s for Den/Bou, a bit breezy in the foothills and mountains
Next more significant short-wave will move into CO from the northwest on Mon am...this storm will bring in colder air and northwest flow for the mountains, but will be a quick hitting storm
For the north-central mountains (including Routt, Eagle, Summit, Grand, ClearCreek, western Boulder/Larimer counties etc) will have a round of snow primarily from 9am-9pm Monday: 2-5" of new snow for the ski areas, with highest amounts expected in the Park Range (north of Steamboat) and Flat Tops, secondarily for parts of Gore Range and also near Winter Park / Berthoud (areas that are favored by northwest flow)
It will also be windy and cold in the mountains on Mon into Tue am
For Den/Bou and the front-range on Mon, just a few gusty rain/snow showers, maybe a few snow showers in the foothills above 8k ft, otherwise too much west / northwest winds (downslope) on Mon, so really little to no precip for the front-range (it will all be in the mountains)
Then back to warmer weather on Tue/Wed, then maybe a weak southern track low / moisture from the south next Wed/Thu but models are all over the place
First image shows the current Freeze Warnings (purple) and Frost Advisories (blue) for tomorrow morning. Second image shows 6-hr max wind-gusts for 12pm-6pm Sat from ECMWF (windy in spots). Third image shows expected snowfall from the Monday storm system for north-central CO from latest ECMWF (total snowfall ending 6am Tue, take with a grain of salt).
