Forecast for the rest of the week: cold-front and thunderstorms for the front-range on Wed

Jul 15, 2025

07/15/25 8:45am: Morning, we have some weather to talk about. Generally an increase in thunderstorm chances, especially starting tomorrow for the front-range, with better monsoon moisture for the mountains by Fri and Sat. Here are some main points

  • Hot today for Den/Bou and the front-range with just a slight chance for isolated storms from 2pm-6pm, best coverage around the edges of the metro area (foothills, Palmer Divide)

  • Overall best chances for storms today will be along/south of a line from Castle Rock to Leadville to Aspen, generally over south-central CO: 1pm-8pm

  • A cold-front will move down the front-range (across Den/Bou) this evening and usher in much deeper moisture, some low clouds and cooler weather, Wed will start out much cloudier for areas east of the Cont. Divide

  • We will have a moist upslope regime in place for Wed and that will lead to rounds of heavy thunderstorms for parts of the front-range (including Den/Bou) from 1pm-9pm, likely multiple rounds (best chances 3-6pm tomorrow)

  • For the north-central and front-range mountains tomorrow isolated to scattered storms from 1pm-8pm, best coverage from Summit Co east and especially over the Front Range mountains (along/east of the Cont. Divide), heavy rain in a few spots east

  • On Thu deeper monsoon moisture returns to southern CO, but will be confined down there initially. So on Thu most of the thunderstorm action will be along/south of a Pike's Peak to Buena Vista to Ouray line (southern mountains will be favored: San Juans and Sangres): 12pm-8pm on Thu.

  • Further north for north-central mountains isolated late day storms on Thu mostly after 4pm and mostly from Breck south.

  • Little to no storms for Den/Bou on Thu

  • The deeper monsoon moisture spreads across the mountains on Fri and Sat....those days likely bring the best chances for afternoon thunderstorms to parts of the north-central mountains and parts of western CO (higher terrain): 1pm-8pm on each of those day

  • More limited coverage over Den/Bou on Fri and Sat but still some storm after 2pm

  • Better coverage of storms over southern / southeast CO on Fri and Sat (and mountains)

So you can see decent thunderstorm chances on most days this week. Worst of the weather for the front-range will be Wed. Worst of it for the mountains Fri and Sat.
