Forecast for the approaching storm: wet over the next 48hrs

Jun 2, 2025

06/02/25 8:45am: Alright our next storm system is moving into southwest CO now. The main event will be from about 2pm today through 10am Tue with more lingering showers Tue into Wed.

For the north-central and south-central mountains scattered to numerous rain showers and thunderstorms from 12pm-6pm, then more consistent stratiform rain from 6pm this evening through 6am Tue morning. Then more rain showers tomorrow afternoon as well. 0.4" to 0.9" of liquid precip for the mountains seems likely.

For mountains: Snow-level will initially be above 11k ft today, dropping to 10,500ft tonight, some minor accumulation for the higher terrain: 1-5" (highest amounts in upper parts of San Juans, secondarily over the Front Range mountains late tonight).

For Den/Bou and the front-range scattered thunderstorms from 1pm-7pm, then more consistent stratiform (colder rain) from 9pm tonight through 9am tomorrow morning: 0.60" to 1.50" of liquid precip (snow-level above 10,500ft for Front Range mountains). Turning chilly for Tue (back in the upper 50s / low 60s for front-range).

On Tue for Den/Bou and the front-range some scattered rain showers / weak thunderstorms from 11am-6pm.

After 2pm tomorrow the focus for heaviest rain/thunderstorms will be over southern CO and southeast CO.

Another good round of storms expected across much of the state on Wed afternoon into Thu before things dry out for the weekend.

First image loop shows forecast radar over the next 48hrs (6am this morning to 6am Wed) from latest HRRR model. Second image shows current regional satellite view showing the upper-level low moving into CO from the southwest. Image 3 shows forecast total liquid precip over the next 48hrs from latest HRRR (through 6am Wed) and fourth image is equivalent but for total snowfall, take modeled rain/snow amounts with grain of salt but you can see what areas will be favored.
