Cold temps this Fri am, a look at the forecast for the weekend, a weaker storm expected Monday
Oct 17, 2025
10/17/25 8:20am: Happy Friday! Chilly out there this morning as expected but still not below freezing for Denver yet (37 at the airport), which is getting late in the season for first true freeze, but it was colder in spots, especially near Greeley and along the Platte River Valley towards Longmont where it did fall below freezing. And it was cold in the mountains and across western CO with low temps in the upper teens to 20s.
First here are some notable low temps (image1):
Gunnison: 14
Fraser: 16
Leadville: 16
Silverthorne: 19
Alamosa: 19
Silverton: 20
Granby: 22
Steamboat: 31
Greeley: 32
Longmont: 32
Craig: 32
Air Force Academy (C. Springs): 33
Boulder: 35
Denver Int. Airport: 37
In terms of the forecast for the weekend and early next week the one thing I wanted to mention is that unfortunately the Monday storm system is now looking weaker for CO, taking a more northern track with just a glancing blow for the north-central mountains: with some snow for the northern mountains from 12am-12pm Monday: Trace-4" in spots, best chances north of Summit Co: Park Range (near/north of Steamboat) and the Medicine Bow Range (Cameron Pass, RMNP, northern IPW). Further south for Eagle, Summit, ClearCreek counties, etc likely just Trace-2" in a few spot Mon am.
Prior to that, pretty nice weather this weekend, minus some wind at times. Models still show a fast moving clipper, grazing northern CO tomorrow morning: this will mostly be a wind producer (although a few weak snow showers expected in Park Range and Medicine Bow Range tomorrow morning).
But for northern CO including mountains and front-range (Den/Bou) some stronger wind tomorrow: primarily from 8am-4pm, with west / northwest wind-gusts of 30-60mph, strongest in the Front Range mountains above 9k ft (strong wind for RMNP, IPW, etc).
That's all for now. Have a great weekend! First image shows low temps (min-T) since midnight from NWS. Second image loop shows forecast wind-gusts over the next 48hrs (6am this morning to 6am Sun) from latest HRRR. Third image shows forecast total snowfall from now through 12am Tue from latest ECMWF, this is for the Mon morning storm system and you can see its less, take with grain of salt (GFS shows even less, I'll attach in comments).
