Cold low temps this morning and a look ahead at the next storm system for Thu/Fri
Dec 29, 2025
12/29/25 9am: Morning, its Monday (sort of lol). Cold out there this morning behind this last storm system. Low temps of -5 to -20 in the mountains with low temps of 5 to 15 on the front-range / plains. But its going to warm up nicely over the next few days, with pleasant weather through Wed. Snow returns to the mountains on Thu from the southwest. Den/Bou and the front-range will stay mild and dry through next weekend.
Here are some notable low temps this morning (min-T since midnight, some these are unofficial stations):
Fraser Flats: -19
Granby: -12
Steamboat (west): -9
Vail Pass: -7
Frisco: -6
Leadville: -6
Gunnison: -6
Snowmass: -5
Kremmling: -4
Craig: -4
Red Mountain Pass: 4
Erie: 6
Buena Vista: 7
Colorado Springs: 8
Denver (DIA): 9
Westminster: 13
Snow returns to western / southwestern CO by 5am Thu. Initially relatively warm with snow-levels above 8k ft
Snow showers / light snow returns to the north-central mountains by 12pm Thu.
Main snow event for all of the mountains will be from about 2pm Thu to 8pm Fri, heaviest snow expected Fri morning.
Not looking like a big event for the north-central mountains with the big low well to our west and southwest flow aloft (and warmer air at least initially), so maybe 2-5" of new snow for the local ski areas by Fri pm
Heaviest snow will be in western CO from near Steamboat to Aspen/CB to near Telluride and Silverton (western San Juans), maybe 6-12" for those areas by Fri pm. Uncertainty remains hi.
As I mentioned the Thu/Fri storm will have little to no impact on Den/Bou and it will remain mild (temps in the 50s/60s) through the weekend.
First image shows low temps across the state this morning from NWS Hazard Viewer. Second image shows the next wave at 6am Thu (low to our west, weaker waves moving in from the southwest). Image 3 shows forecast precip-type/rate at 11am Thu from GFS.
