Beatiful day at Breck for some skiing

Dec 14, 2024

12/14/24 8pm: Good evening, I hope you are having a good Saturday! It was a beautiful day up at Breckenridge for a family ski day. The 1" of new snow (more in spots) certainly softened up our favorite runs under Peak 9. Was seasonably chilly this morning with temps in teens, warming up to upper-20s / near 30 by afternoon. Wind was not bad over the lower mountains with a few stronger gusts at the top of the lifts...but the wind was ripping up high and you could see the snow plumes coming off all the surrounding peaks, but it made for some cool views....

The first image is of the iconic Peak 8 which is not open yet due to higher avy danger up there (wind-swept). I have also included some photos of Peak 9 and 10 (image 2) and looking north towards Peak 4 and 3 (image 4). Cools views of the incredible Ten Mile Range today under Blue Bird skies. Was a fun ski day....on a side note, of course had to go into the terrain park with my girls (they love it), had just a bit too much speed for one of the jumps, overshot the landing... landing on flat and tweaked my hip, of course getting hurt doing dumb stuff (my wife reminded me I'm 45), a bit sore tonight lol

Anyway here are some of the official snow reports from this morning (good to see the forecast pan out again)

Aspen Highlands: 3"

Keystone, Winter Park, Steamboat, Copper: 2"

Vail, BC, Breck, Loveland, A-Basin, Crested Butte, Snowmass: 1"

In terms of the weather: first, some snow showers tonight for parts of the north-central mountains, mostly west of Vail Pass (Trace-1" in just a few spots).

Looking ahead, it now appears the Sun/Mon wave is mostly going north...but some light snow for the north-central mountains from 8am Sun to 8am Mon: Trace-2" for the I-70 ski areas, and up to 2-6" for areas closer to Steamboat / Park Range, and parts of Mecine Bow Range.

There will also be some stronger wind over the mountains and front-range tomorrow: 9am-5pm, especially Front Range mountains along/east of the Cont. Divide with westerly wind-gusts of 30-60mph, 20-40mph for lower elevations.

A bit more snow for the north-central mountains from 2pm Tue to 2am Wed: 1-4" in spots, more on that later.

How was your Saturday?
