Additonal snowfall through Sun and a look ahead to an active weather pattern into Feb
Jan 25, 2025
01/25/25 3:10pm: Here is a quick look at additional snowfall for the rest of the storm system. But first some good snow totals so far out there across Den/Bou and the front-range.
Up to 4.6" total at my house and still snowing lightly (kind of off/on rounds of snow which will be the case through this evening). Seeing several reports of 3-7" across Den/Bou with higher amounts in/near the foothills. Light snow will continue along the front-range through 10pm this evening and then end (with a cold night in store). Only Trace-2" more in spots for urban areas, up to 1-4" more for foothills.
For the mountains, model show another round of light snow tonight as the back-side of the wave comes through on westerly flow (so the snow will pick up late tonight): next round 2am-12pm tomorrow favoring the northern front-range mountains. Local ski areas and passes can expect Trace-3" additional, with up to 4-6" additional in RMNP and parts of IPW and near Cameron Pass. Also Park Range north of Steamboat may also squeeze out 1-4" additional tonight. Tomorrow will be cold in the mountains with snow showers through 2pm, then it clears out.
Looking ahead, the big low well to our west (over CA) will move across northern NM on Tue/Wed...as of now models show the track pretty far south (even further south than yesterday)...this will bring some light snow initially to the San Juans / Sangres Tue into Wed...then it gets interesting.
Then models can't decide where the low will meander / track for Wed-Fri next week...latest GFS has it moving north again bringing another round of snow to southern CO, south-central mountains and the front-range (including Den/Bou) Thu-Fri but details are very uncertain. Best chances over southeast CO from Springs south Wed-Fri next week.
Overall looking ahead towards February I do see a cold an active pattern with several snow-storm for CO from Sat Feb 1st through Friday Feb 7th, including the possibility of another arctic front and much more snow for the front-range (Den/Bou) around Sun Feb 2nd to Tue Feb 4th but uncertainty is high in the details.
Looking forward to a snowy pattern in early Feb!
First image is current composite radar over CO. Second image is latest surface map showing current temps, dewpt, wind-speed and precip. Image 3 shows forecast additional snowfall from now through just 7am Sun (from latest HRRR, doesn't have all the snow for Sun). Second image is additional snowfall form now through 11am Mon from NWS Blend of Models.
How much snow do you have now? I'm looking forward to skiing tomorrow.
