Active weather Tue and Wed as a storm passes through. Severe storms possible today

Jun 24, 2025

06/24/25 8:30am: Morning, we have some weather to talk about. Its a weather alert type of day for parts of the front-range and eastern plains this afternoon for some stronger / severe thunderstorms in spots. Models show a couple short-waves associated with a larger trough to our west which will move through by Wed night, so expect some unsettled weather for the next 2 days, especially over the eastern half of the state.

Its currently socked in with some low clouds and deeper surface moisture (higher dewpoints) over Den/Bou and the front-range, this will combine with a short-wave aloft to produce thunderstorms this afternoon. The focus for storms today will be east of the Cont. Divide and also over parts of southern CO.

For Den/Bou and the front-range: scattered thunderstorms between 1pm-8pm (best chances 2pm-6pm). Some strong storms in spots with hail, heavy rain and some wind. Best chances for severe storms will be along/east of I-25 but includes parts of Denver and the Palmer Divide (see second and third images below).

Strongest storms will be east / northeast of Denver after 3pm this afternoon: hail, wind and isolated tornado can't be ruled out for the eastern plains.

Also some stronger storms expected over southeast CO (from Springs to Pueblo and east) after 2pm today. Some rain showers may linger over southern CO tonight into tomorrow morning (including parts of San Juans and SLV).

For the north-central mountains isolated to scattered storms from 1pm-7pm, best chances will be from Summit East and especially along/east of the Cont. Divide (Front Range mountains: IPW, RMNP, etc).

Also worth mentioning, some stronger wind over western CO today (10am-6pm), with west / southwest wind-gusts of 20-40 mph. There is a Red Flag Warning for areas west of Vail Pass from 11am-8pm today for no burning.

Looking ahead, a better chance for storms for the central mountains tomorrow (Wed) from 11am-8pm (best chances after 1pm tomorrow). Scattered storms in spots, turning wet in spots (cloudy and unsettled on Wed)

For Den/Bou on Wed likely going to start out cool and more cloudy again with maybe a few morning showers, then another chance for weaker thunderstorms and rain showers from 1pm-7pm again, best chances on Wed in/near the foothills and PD.

Looking ahead back to dry and seasonably warm temps for Thu-Sun (with highs getting back to near 90 for Den/Bou in that time-frame with very limited storm chances: mostly dry).

First image loop shows forecast radar over the next 48hrs (6am this morning through 6am Thu) from latest HRRR. Images 2 and 3 shows the severe weather outlook / hail outlook from SPC for today.
