A look at Total Precipitation for the month of September, some big time rain totals in spots across southern CO!
Oct 3, 2026
10/03/26 8pm: Good evening from Crestone! What a beautiful October day in the mountains! I had another wonderful fall hike, more on that later. But I had a chance this evening to look at rain totals for the month of Sep.
Below I show total rainfall (liquid precipitation) for the entire month of Sep from PRISM (800m high-res precip analysis). Note the maps do not include the rain totals from the last full day of the month (Sep 30th) and there was some substantial rain across southeast CO (not shown).
Overall a pretty wet month for most of the state favoring southern CO with some big time totals in spots. Parts of the San Juans picked up 8-12"+ of rain / melted snow with 6-8" in the Elks.
Parts of the southeast plains closer to La Junta and Lamar measured 6-10"+ of rainfall as well with > 12" near Two Buttes (just northeast of Springfield)!
Much of the north-central mountains including parts of Eagle, Summit, ClearCreek and Grand counties picked up 1.6-2.8" of rain.
Even areas near Grand Junction / western Slope picked up 2.2-3.4" of rain for the month.
Now it is pretty clear on the map where the big donut hole(s) has been. If you live north of Denver, near Boulder to Erie to Longmont to parts of Loveland, Ft. Collins, Greeley and near Ft. Morgan not much rain but still some. I know some of you feel like you neve get any rain but if you really look, almost everywhere at least got some rain for the month...
Closer to Denver actually some decent amounts. Denver (at DIA) officially measured 2.22" for the month of Sep. Parts of south / southeast Denver (Centennial, Aurora to Parker areas) picked up 2.8-3.4" for the month...that ain't nothing. Even at my place in Westminster, I was in a low spot but still > 1.00" of rain.
I just want to point out all the widespread rain across the state because I have heard so many complaints about no rain (it just wasn't at your house, sorry). It has been an active month as expected...which is good because we have a dry spell for a bit.

How much rain did you get for the entire month of Sept.
A reminder the world is not coming to and end if you are in the donut hole lol. Precip will come eventually....hopefully ๐
