A look at the next 48hrs, most of the snow from 5pm Tue to 5pm Wed
Feb 10, 2025
02/10/25 8am: Focusing on the next 48hrs its going to take a bit before the more meaningful snow moves into the front-range and north-central mountains: with most of the impacts coming from 5pm Tue to 5pm Wed (that's when most of the snow accum will be for Den/Bou).
Prior to this already some light snow moving into southwest CO / western San Juans now and that will continue through today with light accumulation in spots: Trace-3" in spots.
For Den/Bou and the northern front-range the initial cold-front moves in after 5pm today with some very light snow developing overnight into tomorrow morning: For the front-range urban corridor snow / snow-showers develop after 10pm and will continue into tomorrow morning. Trace-3" in spots, with best chances from Boulder to Ft. Collins and in the foothills west (Boulder and Larimer county foothills will have best chances tonight).
Then for Den/Bou and the northern front-range a much better chance for snow from about 5pm Tue through 5pm Wed and turning much colder as the main arctic air mass moves in from the north: 2-6" of new snow for the front-range urban corridor with highest amounts north of I-70 and west of I-25 (areas closer to Ft. Collins will be favored). The foothills can expect 4-10", again Boulder and Larimer counties will be favored.
For the north-central mountains initially just some snow showers over the northern Front Range mountains (RMNP / Cameron Pass areas) tonight into tomorrow morning. Light snow moves back into the rest of the mountains after 11am tomorrow.
Then for the north-central mountains: moderate snow from 5pm Tue through 11pm Wed: 5-12" of new snow with highest amounts expected west of Vail Pass and closer to Aspen.
The southern mountains: San Juans, Sangres, etc will also get some good snow from Tue night through Wed afternoon with 5-10" of additional accum.
Much more snow coming to most of the state from 2am Fri through 5pm Sat. See my post from last night for more details in regards to that. I'll be putting together my snowfall map for this first storm system tongiht.
First image shows the initial cold-front moving down the front-range at 11pm tonight from ECMWF. Second image is current, regional IR satellite image showing the snow moving into southwest CO now. Image 3 shows forecast snowfall through 5am tomorrow morning, image 4 shows forecast snowfall through 5am Wed both from ECMWF, take with grain of salt but shows how things evolve over the next 48hrs. Image 5 is from Den/Bou NWS showing potential snow amounts through Wed evening (I agree with most of the number, although it could be more in the mountains), also shows chance for >4" of snow.
