A look at the active weather pattern expected through Thu (cold front for Wed)
May 27, 2025
5/27/25 8:45am: We have an active weather pattern in place through Thu am, especially for the front-range. Models show a weaker short-wave moving across the state today but then a stronger system tomorrow that will push a cold-front down the front-range and usher in even better storm chances. Then warmer and drier for Fri-Sun before another active stretch with deeper, early monsoon moisture next week (Mon-Wed next week looks active as well).
For Den/Bou/Ft.Collins foothills, PD and northern front-range:
Fog this morning, clearing out around 11am, partly cloudy through mid-day
For the afternoon a chance for isolated to scattered thunderstorms from 2pm-10pm, best chances likely 5-8pm. Best coverage in the foothills and also along/east of I-25 and near the Palmer Divide
For tomorrow a stronger cold-front moves down the front-range around mid-morning (after 9am) and that will usher in showers and thunderstorms, maybe on the earlier side:
For tomorrow: a chance for scattered thunderstorms and rain showers from 11am Wed through 3am Thu (looks like rounds of rain showers and weak thunderstorms tomorrow, so heads up there, turning wet in spots)
For the north-central mountains including Eagle, Summit, Grand, ClearCreek, western Boulder/Larmier counties
Isolated rain showers / weak thunderstorms from 1pm-8pm today, best chances along/east of the Cont. Divide (Front Range mountains will be favored)
Then a chance for a few rain showers overnight in spots (snow above 10kft, minor accumulation tonight)
Heavier rain and thunderstorms will move into the northern mountains (Park range near Steamboat, Cameron Pass, RMNP) tomorrow morning after 9am
For the rest of the north-central mountains closer to Summit co tomorrow: Rounds of rain showers and thunderstorms from 1pm Wed through 5am Thu. Snow level may drop to 9500ft by Wed night: Trace-3" of snow possible for some of the ski area and mountains passes by Thu am, so heads up there
Overall drier by Fri and the sun will come out, but still a chance for afternoon thunderstorms for the mountains and front-range, primarily from 2pm-8pm on Fri. Drier Sat and Sun.
First image loop shows forecast radar over the next 48hrs (6am this morning through 6am Thu) from latest HRRR. Second image shows the short-wave on Wed afternoon. Third image shows the cold-front moving down the front-range mid-day Wed. Image 4 shows forecast total liquid precip over the next 48hrs from HRRR, take with grain of salt but shows where heavier rain may fall.
